Top Trending International Destinations Among Filipinos

During the pandemic, Filipinos were not exempt from strict health protocols. When things calmed down, they began to travel locally. However, the allure of traveling to international destinations due to the unique cultural context, exotic foods, and warm hospitality of strangers is simply enthralling.

Many Filipinos have visited Hong Kong, Macau, Bangkok, and Singapore. They were popular due to their proximity to the Philippines and Filipinos' love of shopping. Airline tickets and tours are less expensive. However, there appear to be some changes in preferred destinations as a result of the pandemic. Filipinos are now looking for a more in-depth cultural experience. So, what are the most popular international destinations among Filipinos?

1. Vietnam. Vietnam has over 1,000 miles of coastline, bordering China, Laos, and Cambodia. Central Vietnam has some of the most beautiful architecture in the country, with much of it concentrated in and around Hu and Hoi An. Hue is a city that surrounds the forbidden city in the center and has elaborate mausoleums for its previous emperors in the countryside. It even has a deserted water park with a dragon pool and waterslides.

Hoi An is incredible in a unique way; the streets of this former trading port are lined with traditional wooden houses along the Thu Bon River. Every lunar calendar month, on the 14th day, lanterns are lit with candles and floated down the river to bring luck and happiness. Ha Long Bay's picture-perfect seascape is dominated by green limestone karsts with tiny fishing villages in their shadows.

2. Korea. South Korea has several beautiful tourist destinations, and its capital, Seoul, is a traveler's dream. It is one of the best places to visit because of its ancient architecture, delectable cuisine, and tranquil beaches. Add to that the opportunity to visit K-drama locations where some of the most popular scenes from Korean TV shows starring favorite actors were shot, or better yet, recreate them in their own unique style for Instagram.

Because of South Korea's long history, its people have a variety of traditions that have been passed down through generations. Traditional Korean dance and music performances can still be seen today, and people love to dress in traditional clothes (hanbok) - you can rent them to wear around Seoul and Jeonju, for example.

3. Turkey. Turkey is a warm and welcoming country with a plethora of things to see and do, from the caves of Cappadocia to the ancient sites along the coast, and, of course, Istanbul, one of the world's most culturally interesting cities, sitting at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and blending a distinctively rich history with highly creative contemporary art, design, and gastronomy. The Hagia Sofia's stunning Byzantine architecture, the Blue Mosque's stunning addition to the skyline, the delectable aromas of the Spice Bazaar and the Bosphorus Bridge, and the skyline at night are simply breathtaking.

5. Holy Land. A pilgrimage - a journey of faith - is an essential part of every Filipino's spiritual life in a predominantly Catholic country like the Philippines. Many pilgrims came to perform religious or civil penance. Others have felt the desire and longing to be close to divinity. The pilgrimage may be part of a "panata" (vow) for petitions or in thanksgiving for answered prayers for some. Reaching the sacred site is said to bring about healing, spiritual awakening and renewal, and faith strengthening.

6. Switzerland. A trip to Switzerland is unquestionably on the bucket list of k-drama Filipino fans. Iseltwald appears four times in Crash Landing on You (CLOY). In the opening sequence of CLOY, the pedestrian area of Schorren in Iseltwald appears as the street by Lake Brienz where the two protagonists walk, with Seeburg Castle in the background.

Individuals have varying preferences when it comes to their preferred destination. Age and interest are also important factors. Whatever one's interests are, it's always a good idea to do some research on the destination and look for the best travel deals.
