How to Minimize Contracting a Virus When Traveling

On the 11th of March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak a global pandemic. Ever since then, a lot has changed. Businesses closed, people lost jobs, and the world suddenly seemed like it had stopped moving.

One of the most affected industries is the tourism Industry since tourism involves much traveling and human touch. Unfortunately, travel restrictions to avoid spreading the said virus made it almost impossible for tourists to go from one place to another and enjoy various activities. Fortunately, as of right now, the spread of the virus has slowed down already, and the whole world is starting to recover slowly. People are so eager to travel again and experience tourism activities once more, but many people still can't remove the fear in their minds that they might get the virus. One of the safest ways to travel again and reduce the chances of contracting the virus is by traveling by car.

  1. Traveling by car has experienced a drastic increase in fame since it gives you (travelers) flexibility and an easier way to connect with nature.

  2. It also encourages maintaining proper safety precautions while discovering different places.

  3. Joining caravans is a perfect option to travel with friends and families since there is no need to encounter other people.

  4. Aside from that, you can significantly reduce the chances of going through quarantine or isolation since there is shallow social contact during the travel.

As mentioned, traveling by car is a very safe way to travel once again, but there are still more ways to enhance your travel safety further.

  1. Preparing a toolkit is very important since it can help you in emergencies. Toolkits can contain face masks, alcohol or hand sanitizers, wet wipes, paper towels, and disposable gloves. All these items can help in ensuring safety during an emergency.

  2. Doing thorough research about the destination to be visited is essential since it will allow you to know whether that place has a high number of covid-19 cases or not. As a traveler, it is necessary to understand the requirements for you to enter the site you are about to visit, the restrictions, and all sorts of information that will make your travel smoother and safer.

  3. Another thing to consider is the use of bathrooms. When using a bathroom, make sure you clean everything before and after using it to avoid getting or spreading any virus. Avoid spending more than 10 minutes inside the bathroom and do your best to touch as few surfaces as possible with your hands. Use your foot to flush or use barriers such as paper towels or disposable gloves.

  4. Bringing your snack is also important to avoid getting off the car when hungry. Going through a drive-thru is an option but remember to use protection when talking to someone and getting the food.

  5. Rolling down the windows is an excellent idea since it will allow continuous airflow inside the car.

  6. Ensuring that the car is prepared for a trip is a great way to avoid contact with other people. Car problems might force you to get off the vehicle and have it fixed by other people; however, you can prevent that by ensuring that everything in the car is working fine, including car oil, fluids, breaks, tires, headlights, and car tools.

  7. Lastly, you must avoid getting inside a vehicle with a person who recently contracted the virus or has covid-like symptoms.
